You Gotta Start Somewhere

start-line-3 The third in the series, “Five Bras That Fit:  Five Fittings That Touched My Soul This Year.”

You Gotta Start Somewhere

She came in and walked right up to me and said, “I’m looking for a sports bra.”   In we went into the dressing room where I asked the question I ask many women first off, “What size have you been wearing?”  She said that it had been a long time since she’s bought a bra and she’s gained a lot of weight, but all she knew was that she saw a video of me on Facebook where I was talking about sports bras.  She watched it because her friend “liked” it and I said that we carried all these sizes that sounded big.  “I’m not sure where I fit in in all of those sizes, but I figured I have to be in there somewhere.”

She told me she lives in Bennington.  She said it was time to do something about the weight.  We talked about how the heck can you even go for a walk when with every step you take, you feel uncomfortable.  She said she came here to the shop after seeing that video as a kind of a first step to doing something about it.

I brought her a couple of bras from the back including a white one.  “This is the same bra I wore in that video,” I told her.  She looked at it and burst out in an inviting laugh, “Looks a little different in my size!”  I cracked up too.  She added, “Well, I guess you gotta start somewhere.”

We pretty much laughed the rest of the time.  I think she got her first workout in that fitting room testing that bra out – walking back and forth, going up and down on her toes, putting her arms out in a T, raising them over her head.  It was a start.

I told her she should do a video.   She said, “Hey, don’t push it, let’s start with the bra.”   We kept laughing.  I’m still smiling about it.  I hope she is too.

Cheers to first steps and laughter –
