Thankfully, I seem to always end up getting some sort of sign when I’m stuck or in doubt. These signs help me go in a direction. They help me move on with making a decision or help me feel better about a situation. I was stuck this morning on writing a blog about the JOY – March Madness Movin’ On Sale. Amen that I got a sign by way of a woman needing a bra! Perfect!
So, we are having this sale and I did a video yesterday talking about it and posted it to YouTube and Facebook. Maybe you watched it once – …if you did, that would be about 17 times less than Courtney did. She had to stand there yesterday holding that iPhone for at least 17 takes before I found one that I thought was OK to post. It usually doesn’t take that many takes…seriously…one, two…maybe three takes – not 17.
I had some fear about having this sale at all and I really wanted to send the right message if we were going to do a video to promote the sale. First and foremost, I really didn’t want anything to be negative. I didn’t want to sound desperate. I had this fear that you might think we were in trouble financially and that’s why we were doing this sale. I also didn’t want to send the message that we are all about the “sale” and the “discounting.” Yes, we have a sale corner (we love having a sale corner!) – but at the end of the day, we are a locally-owned retail shop. In this case, “locally-owned” equals me. 🙂 While I love much about the comparisons I get to Crazy Eddie, he and I have totally different businesses and totally different business models!
I really wanted the video message to be about moving forward and of course, joy, and also have some fun with the whole March Madness and first day of Spring thing. (I went to Syracuse and March Madness always reminds me of my crazy awesome college years. And Spring…well, I’m ready…hello?) I wanted to tell you about new styles we’d like to get in and how we’d like to boost inventory in certain areas like strapless bras with prom and wedding season right around the corner. We also want to get more maternity merchandise in because, is it me? …or is everyone having a baby!?!
The other thing is is that we are learning a lot about the bras that really do work for you and in what sizes. What’s started happening lately though, is that we are running out of certain bras and you are coming in and we don’t have them in stock for you. This has got to stop. Ask anyone in retail and they’ll tell you that inventory is key to success. So many of you have been good sports about letting us special order for you – thank you!
So long story short, we’d like to sell some of this stuff that hasn’t sold so we can buy some other stuff that we think will sell. We think it will sell because you’ve been telling us you would buy it if we had it.
Plain and simple, we want to move on. To do so, we are having a sale.
I’m home today doing a whole host of fun (writing!) and not so fun (cleaning and looking for tax documents!) while Connie is manning the shop. Like I said at the start of this story, I was stuck this morning on how to write a blog about the “moving on” and the “sale.” I checked my email a little while ago there was that sign…
Connie had emailed a vendor from the shop computer to ask if a couple items could be added to our most recent order. Seems that a woman is leaving for vacation in a week and she wanted to take a couple new bras with her. She’s a 36H and she knows the style she wants, but alas, we don’t have them in stock right now. If I had any doubts or fears before about the “sale,” I don’t anymore. I’m OK with having a sale to the point of really turning into Crazy Eddie: WE ARE HAVING A SALE – this woman needs her bras!!!
The JOY March Madness Movin’ On SALE is happening NOW. – We want to sell this stuff so we can get some different stuff.
Let’s move on, shall we? Hope to see you!
Madly and crazily yours,
Joy
