Oh Joy! It’s President’s Weekend and Valentine’s Day too. Whether you’re après skiing or day tripping, Manchester has a whole bunch of fun (and warm) things to do. Of course, the shop will be open for bra buying and Valentining, but here’s some destination ideas if you’re in and around our little town this holiday weekend. Art, music, eating, shopping…here we go!
Art! Southern Vermont Arts Center: Solos Exhibition featuring eleven painters, photographers, and designers from our area including Leslie Peck, Christopher Dant, Graham Mears. Opening reception, Saturday 2-4 p.m. Yester House Galleries. www.svac.org
Helmholz Fine Art: Stephen Schaub “Art Dreaming About Itself” featuring pigment on hand-made Amate paper. Opening Cocktail Reception, Saturday, 5-7:30 p.m www.helmholzfineart.com The owner Lisa is a hoot! Tilting at Windmills: “New York City” themed art featuring Gerald Lubeck, Steven Stroud, and John Traynor. Artist reception, Saturday, 4:30-7 p.m. www.tilting.com
Music! Books!
Acoustic Concert with Luminous Crush. Saturday. 7 p.m. Northshire Bookstore. Infllences of bluegrass icons, pop sensations and alt-country renegades. Have you been to this bookstore? One of the absolute BEST!
Wine! Wine tasting on Saturday 2-5 p.m. Comollo Fine Wines. (just four doors down from the shop) Pssst – they have this rosé that is from BRAD PITT’S winery. (Squeal!)
Farmer’s Market! Sunday 10-2. J.K. Adams in Dorset (just 6 minutes out of town). Support local farmers and foodies and browse the fab-u-lous kitchen store.
Dessert! Mother Myrick’s – Buttercrunch to die for and those heart shortbread cookies with that raspberry jam? Umm, yes. And more. Much more. Especially for those with sweet tooths and big eyes.
Shopping! Today’s short list…too many to mention them all. Suffice it to say, you can get just about anything in Manchester. A few of my faves…
Nina’s Jewelers – Diamonds and such.
The Gold Trout – hostess gifts, jewelry, baby gifts, etc.
Eileen Fisher Outlet – Try to get out of there without something perfect. You just can’t.
Vermont Kitchen Supply – Everything but the kitchen sink. Not kidding. Two doors down from the shop.
Heinel’s – Boots, Slippers, Woolrich, that sort of thing.
Zippy Chicks and Perfect Piece: Two consignment stores – one women’s clothing (including some great Prom dresses if you have a teen) located right downstairs from the shop…the other, a fabulous furniture wonderland… and just down the road on 7A.
H.N. Williams: – Ok, technically in Dorset, but just 5 miles out of town. Classic, timeless Vermont. Carhartts to canning supplies. Seeds to sundries. Family owned and operated since 1840.
Fireman’s Breakfast Manchester Fire Department. Sunday Mornin’ 7-11 All You Can Eat Pancakes. Nothin’ wrong with that.
Presidential Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home…Robert Todd Lincoln’s summer home. His father was Abe. Glorious historical gem in our quaint Manchester Village. Tours daily starting at 9:30.
Place to Stay? Listen, I just got the inside scoop on two unique locally-owned places that have just a room or two left for the weekend. Call them! Casablanca Motel (Charming restored cabins with a vintage vibe) 802-362-2145 and Barnstead Inn (quietly situated in an old carriage house just two blocks from town) 800-331-1619
A winter weekend like this is right up Manchester’s alley. I didn’t even mention our local glass blowing place, our local dog park, or places I love to pick up lunch like Al Ducci’s (Italian), Farmstore (local, farm fresh), Cilantro (quick quality mexican) and dinner…Sushi Boat (my latest take-out eat-by-the fire obsession). You can find them all through Google or Facebook. Restaurants galore here, name your pleasure.
We’ll be rocking at the shop all weekend with warm (but not to warm, menopausal friends…) dressing rooms, bras for all ages and stages in life, cozy pjs, and the down-lo on where to go and what to know.
Don’t you just love our latest ad?
