Change Clothes

image1There comes a time early in every Vermont woman’s year when she must give up her turtlenecks and fleece to make way for some pastels. It is the day that signifies we are declaring winter is behind us and that spring is coming. That day for me was today as I switched over my closets and my drawers from black sweaters and tights to golf outfits and brighter colors. It’s what we do here in Vermont.

I have a lot of clothes. Ask anyone that’s lived with me…I’m a minimum two-closet roommate in any season. Here in Vermont, we have a “winter” closet and a “summer” closet. Or at least I do. This goes for bedroom AND mudroom. If you live in Vermont, I think you understand. Today was my bedroom switchover day – the day my bedroom closets and drawers transition from winter to summer. Yes, I realized that it snowed this morning.

I came across some things that I will never wear again, but I decided to keep anyway like a couple bikinis and a pink camouflage Barry’s Bootcamp t-shirt from back when I lived in LA and actually went to those sorts of classes. I also probably kept more fancy dresses than I should, but hey, you never know. Some of the dresses are from before we had phones with cameras. I can probably find someplace to wear them.

I’ve been blasting Jay-Z in my bedroom all day. It’s rare I would do a chore without music and today was no exception. As one season ends and we transition to another, I find myself with a lot of hope and motivation. We just finished our third winter at the shop and we’ll be three years old in July. Women are telling each other about the shop and bringing friends and family. Yesterday, the day started off with three generations coming in together right when I opened the door: a woman, her daughter, and her mother-in-law.

There are some clothes in the trash bin that I’m ready to let go of, and some clothes that I found that I’ve been looking for for ages. I have a pile for Zippy Chicks and Dorset Exchange and a pile to for some people I know who might like, fit, and take them.

Feeling blessed to have a Sunday at home to do such things. There’s one drawer that really doesn’t have a “season,” but like all the others, there are some things that have to go. Goodbye 34A front closure black bra. You’ve been with me for years and have been moved several times, yet I haven’t worn you in a decade. It’s time for a new home. Out of that drawer and into the Heartworks pile.

See you soon. I’ll be the one in the bright colors.

May your hope spring eternal and may your heart be open to love,

Joy

PS:  If you’re cleaning out your closets and drawers and come across a bra that is still good for someone, but not necessarily you, we’ll take it. Loree from Heartworks told me that they have another clothing drive coming up.  You know how we love to donate boxes of gently used bras.  That black 34A is going to kick the box off!
