…And now we are going to talk about something that I haven’t known how to talk about so basically I have ignored it. It’s personal, and private, and I’m fine with admitting that I’ve been a bit afraid to broach the subject with you. Thank goodness for Julie who has taken the bull by the horns and has written a blog about it. Sisters, I just want to remind you that our mission is to help you find your joy from the inside out. And with that, Julie is going to tell you what’s behind the curtain… xo – Joy
We had a great staff meeting today at the JOY Global Headquarters in Manchester, Vermont. We started talking about marketing a product we brought in after the last Curve Expo (the lingerie industry’s biggest trade show). We were so excited to have it and felt like it really met a need in the area. LELO is a company that makes the finest … well, let’s just say it… the best sex-toys on the market.
When the product arrived, we displayed it in the shop. At our meeting we discussed how some local mothers had mentioned to us that they were upset about the display, as it had led to some uncomfortable questions (What’s that?) from their children. With this information in hand, we quickly crafted a curtain to keep these products out of the eyes of unsuspecting young-uns and maybe some of you full-growns.
Just as every bra is not for every woman, every product we sell is not appropriate for every customer. If you aren’t interested or if this doesn’t pertain to you, please come back for another blog to read about our great sleepwear, bras and undies! We have wonderful items for all ages and stages in life! For those of you who want to continue on the conversation, let’s take a look behind the curtain.
We chose LELO because it is the best. Customers have asked for it by name and other retailers similar to JOY have told us that it is a fantastic brand. Basically, if you are going to carry one brand of intimate lifestyle products, this is the one to carry. At Curve, we met with LELO sales rep Michael, who was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and wonderful as he walked us through the product line and helped us select some of the most popular items. Right now we have five different massagers and Kegel exercise balls. Kegel balls are small ball-shaped weights that have been used since ancient times for sexual stimulation and to the exercise the pelvic floor muscles.
Our most important core value at JOY is “What happens at JOY stays at JOY.” We call this our JOY Creed and Joy is very serious about this. Your personal information including bra size, undie preference and everything else that happens in our store is considered sacrosanct.
We aren’t the first store in Vermont to carry this line of product. There was a shop in Brattleboro that is now closed that carried a very large assortment and, of course, Vermont Country Store, which got a lot of press a few years back when they started stocking these items on their shelves and offering them in their catalogues.
Now…if you are ready to experience LELO, send us a private message and the first three respondents get a LELO item for free! Must pick it up in the store. We’d love to show you what’s behind the curtain…
In addition to being a fantastic bra fitter, buyer, and merchandiser, Julie made the very curtain we’ve been discussing on her home sewing machine. She hails from the church of matching bra and underpants and has been at the shop for the past year. The curtain fabric is from our neighbors at the Marimekko outlet next door.
