The Strapless
Goal #1 – you want the thing to stay up. Goal #2 – you want all your tissue in there. How to accomplish? Try going down in the band and up in the cup. With strapless more than any other style of bra, we have to be open to the idea that we might need a different size. As I always say, bras are like shoes…you might be an 8 in one shoe and an 8 ½ in another…and a 9 in another! You want that part in the middle front of the bra to be really flush on your body. It’s a key fit point to a strapless. At JOY, we have six different styles of strapless to help you find just the right one. It really helps if you bring the top or dress so you can test it out. Pictured is the Wacoal “Red Carpet Strapless.” PS: Most strapless bras come with removable straps which come in handy for your other traditional, one-shoulder, or criss-cross back needs!
The Backless
Yikes. This style is almost TOO popular in that it is testing the laws of gravity in some cases. Cup-size and tissue density matters with this style more than any other. I know you larger-cup ladies don’t want to hear this, but the likelihood of finding something both backless and supportive is directly correlated to the size and perkiness of your breast-tissue. In bra fitting school they teach you that the band of the bra (the thing that goes around your body and clasps in the back or front) should be doing 90% of the work. If you take that back band away, well…there goes an awful lot of support. We have quite a few solution ideas including the popular Nu-Bra “Sticky Boob.” We will do everything in our power to find you a solution for your backless dress or top. Most women DO find a solution, but the support thing is something to keep in mind when you buy that backless dress. Here to help! The Bralette
A bralette is a bra without wires or molded cups, think on par to a sports bra, but without the intensity to hold you in. They tend to be more lacy with thinner straps. All of this adds up to pretty, but in most cases not as much support as a traditional bra. Except, of course, if you come to a shop like ours. We have searched the world over and found some bralettes that actually offer some support like this one by Chantelle. Sized Small through XL, this bra can fit a DDD in there comfortably. Such a pretty back to it. We have bralettes in 2X and 3X…not kidding!
The T-Shirt Bra
Ahh…the crown jewel of them all, the “t-shirt bra.” To most women, the notion of a “t-shirt bra” means a smooth cup. We have ‘em in all shapes, sizes, styles, and price points. We have some white t-shirts to try in our fitting rooms, but I always encourage a customer to be honest…would you really wear a tight, white t-shirt? Many say no! So, here’s a bra-buying tip: Bring a shirt that you would actually wear to test out your new bra. I’ll often suggest a woman put back on the shirt that she wore in to the shop. Aim to look and feel good in tops you love and would actually wear! Pictured is a new style by Chantelle. It is lightly padded and look at those straps!
Colorful Bras and Pretty Straps
Oh why not? It’s summer! Venture away from that basic tan! Did you know that red bras are a neutral? We encourage you to try on red under your favorite top…we bet you will be surprised at how it doesn’t show! We have our biggest stock level ever of red bras right now and even a free matching panty with purchase on two styles of the Prima Donna “Madison.” (new molded cup style is pictured) Ask for a color or a pretty strap and we will try to deliver – fun!
